canada-bso-azad

BALOCHISTAN:  The Central Spokesperson of Baloch Student Organization- Azad (BSO-A) revealed in a statement that BSO-A had been registered as an organization under Federal Law governing Non-profit organizations in Canada.

He further stated that the registration was the fruit of hard work put together under the direct supervision of Banuk Karima Baloch and Latif Johar helped by several supporters of the organization. He asserted that the registration demonstrated the Canadian government recognition of the importance of BSO-A to carry out its activities freely and peacefully on its soil to highlight the Baloch Cause across the world. It also defied the Pakistani government efforts to eradicate BSO by banning it to carry out peaceful and democratic activities in the support of a free and independent Balochistan.

Courage under fire – Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur

vbmplongmarch-islamabad

Walking up to 30 kilometers a day is no mean feat even for a hardy lot and here were those delicate and weak girls, an old man and ten-year-old boy

Mir Muhammad Ali TalpurMir Jalil Reiki Shaheed, son of Mama Abdul Qadeer Reiki, was abducted on February 13, 2009; he was the information secretary of the Baloch Republican Party. Mama Qadeer naturally strove to secure the release of his son because the systematic policy of ‘kill and dump’ had started in earnest and the severely mutilated bodies of Baloch activists had started appearing in Balochistan. All he got in return for his efforts to secure his son’s safety was false promises or threats. Realising that the state was hardly being challenged for its atrocities, he decided to start a protest against the inhuman and unjust abductions and killings of Baloch activists. The protest is now 2,287 days old. There was a token hunger strike protest outside the press clubs on July 28, 2009. Moreover, on September 27, 2009 the Voice of Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), an organisation for the recovery of the missing Baloch, was formed with Mama Qadeer as vice chairman and Nasrullah Baloch, whose uncle Asghar Bangulzai was abducted in 2001, as chairman.

Today, every Baloch woman is standing up to the Pakistani state

Farzana Majeed Baloch

Collateral Damage had the honour of talking to Farzana Majeed, the General secretary of the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP). Along with the Secretary of the VBMP, Mama Qadeer. Farzana launched a 3,000KM long march from Quetta to Islamabad via Karachi to raise the issue of the Baloch missing persons.

The interview was conducted by Jahanzeb Hussain, the editor of Collateral Damage.

My congratulations for your march from Quetta to Islamabad for the cause of the missing persons. What are your sentiments after completing the march?

Thank you for your well wishes. When we started the march, we thought that the awareness we would raise might force the intelligence agencies and the state to release our loved ones. But along the way, we received the news that the Supreme Court and the High Court had dismissed some of the cases pertaining to the missing persons. Even more traumatic was the discovery of mass graves in Balochistan as we were marching. Nonetheless, it was still a major achievement that we managed to raise some awareness in Pakistan and abroad about the barbarism of the Pakistani state in Balochistan.

‘Names of some missing Baloch men not in official list’

VBMPLongMarch-KarachiPressClub
KARACHI: The key organisation campaigning for the recovery of ‘missing Baloch persons’ on Tuesday rejected a government ‘list’, citing that the official document did not carry the names of a number of victims of enforced disappearances and were yet to return.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Abdul Qadeer Baloch, better known as Mama Qadeer, founder leader of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, said that more than 2,000 Baloch persons were still missing but the government list did not mention the names of a majority of them.

Baloch leader Farzana Majeed shows the mirror to Pakistani journalists

The journalists at the National Press Club in Islamabad started asking questions with intention to provocate, ridicule and malign the Marchers in particular and the Baloch in general. Angered by their attitude Banuk Farzana Majeed Baloch gave them a dressing down they will never ever forget.

It is difficult to put those emotions into the translation but at least people will get an idea what she said.

A tribute to those who walk to their tormentors

I was in Quetta for two days in June 2011, with a friend, to write a detailed report on the different dynamics of the Baloch insurgency, when we met government officials, political party leaders, Hazara activists, journalists — and Qadeer Baloch.

‘I have lost my health, not my courage’ says Farzana Majeed Baloch

farzana-majeed
In Baloch society where women rarely play a role in public life, Farzana Majeed has bucked the trend. She has emerged as a symbol of struggle for Baloch missing persons.

Farzan Majeed (29) is daughter of Baloch nationalist leader, Majeed Bizenjo. Majeed in his youth was a student activist with progressive leanings. After students politics he emerged as an active leader of the Baloch National Movement (Haye). He was assassinated and his assassination was given the colour of a tribal conflict. However, his comrades believe that it was a conspiracy to eliminate him. His radical political views were not tolerated by the authorities.
