چند دن قبل ہیومن رائٹس کمیشن آف پاکستان (ایچ آر سی پی) کے ڈائریکٹرآئی اے رحمان صاحب نے اپنے مضمون ”قیدیوں کے حقوق“ (14 نومبر ، روزنامہ ڈان) میں قیدیوں کو لاحق خطرات پر حال ہی میں فیڈرل جوڈیشل اکیڈمی میں منعقد سیمینار کے بارے میں لکھا تھا جس میں یہاں کی عدلیہ کے درخشاں ستاروں نے شرکت کی تھی۔ قیدیوں کو درپیش دیگر مسائل کے علاوہ پنجاب اور سندھ کی جیلوں میں گنجائش سے زیادہ بھیڑ نے خصوصی توجہ حاصل کی کیونکہ پنجاب کی جیلوں میں قیدیوں کی گنجائش 21,527 ہے جن میں 52,318 قیدی رکھے گئے ہیں جبکہ سندھ میں 11,939 کی گنجائش کے برخلاف 14,119 قیدی موجود ہیں؛ اسے قطعاً ناقابل برداشت قرار دیا گیا۔

Every day in school Hani misses her friend Mehlab and tells the story of their friendship to other classmates. She still remembers her jokes, naughtiness, and the dolls that she used to hide in her school bags and how they played with the dolls at her home. Her eyes become nostalgic when she remembers her. She wants life to go back before June 2009 and it should always be KG1 in School.

Mehlab and Hani had not known that one day life would bring them to recall each other only in memory. They did not know people would disappear. One day Mehlab’s father disappeared. They say that Dr. Deen Mohammad was abducted by the Pakistani state forces. She did not understand why the Pakistan army would take away her father. Do they need a doctor in the army camp? What has her father done?

وائس فار بلوچ مسنگ پرسنز (وی بی ایم پی) کا تاریخی لانگ مارچ یکم مارچ کو ختم ہو گیا جب اسکے بہادر اور بے لوث شرکاء 106 دنوں کے مارچ کے بعد اسلام آباد پہنچے۔ اس عظیم الشان کوشش نے بلوچوں میں ایک نئی روح پھونک دی اور کئی سیاسی تنظیموں اور افراد کو متحرک کیا۔ اس لانگ مارچ کا ایک اہم پہلو جسے سول سوسائٹی، مرکزی دھارے میں شامل سیاسی جماعتوں اور دکھ کی بات یہ ہے کہ حتیٰ کہ بائیں بازو کی قوتوں، پنجاب میں چند کے علاوہ، نے بھی بڑی حد تک نظر انداز کیا، وہ تھی پنجاب میں زیر تعلیم بلوچ طلباء کی دل و جان سے شرکت؛ اس مارچ کے پنجاب داخل ہونے کے بعد انہوں نے اپناوقت اور اپنی توانائیاں اس کیلئے وقف کردی تھیں۔

روزانہ 30 کلومیٹر چلنا کوئی کھیل نہیں ہے، حتیٰ کہ سخت جان لوگوں کیلئے بھی، اور یہاں پر تو نازک اور کمزور لڑکیاں، ایک بوڑھا آدمی اور ایک دس سالہ لڑکا تھے

ماما عبدالقدیر ریکی کے بیٹے شہید میر جلیل ریکی 13 فروری 2009ء میں اغواء کیے گئے؛ وہ بلوچ ریپبلکن پارٹی کے سیکرٹری اطلاعات تھے۔ قدرتی طور پر ماما قدیر نے اپنے بیٹے کی رہائی کی کوشش کی کیونکہ ’مارو اور پھینک دو‘ کی منظم پالیسی کی پیشگی طور ابتداء ہوچکی تھی اور بلوچ کارکنوں کی بری طرح سے مسخ شدہ لاشیں بلوچستان میں ملنا شروع ہوئی تھیں۔ اپنے بیٹے کی حفاظت کو یقینی بنانے کی کوششوں کے بدلے میں انہیں صرف اور صرف جھوٹے وعدے یا دھمکیاں ملیں۔ جب انہیں احساس ہوا کہ ریاست کو اس ظلم و ستم کیلئے شاید ہی کوئی چیلنج کرے تو انہوں نے بلوچ کارکنوں کے اس غیر انسانی اور ظالمانہ اغواء اور قتل کیخلاف احتجاج شروع کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔ اس احتجاج کو اب 2,287 دن پورے ہوچکے ہیں۔ 28 جولائی 2009ء کو پریس کلبوں کے باہر علامتی بھوک ہڑتالی احتجاج کیے جارہے تھے۔ اس کے علاوہ 27 ستمبر 2009ء میں لاپتہ بلوچوں کی بازیابی کیلئے ایک تنظیم وائس فار بلوچ مسنگ پرسنز قائم کی گئی، ماما قدیر بطور اس کے وائس چیئرمین اور نصراللہ بلوچ، جن کے چچا اصغر بنگلزئی کو 2001ء میں اغوا کیا گیا تھا، بطور اس کے چیئرمین۔

Walking up to 30 kilometers a day is no mean feat even for a hardy lot and here were those delicate and weak girls, an old man and ten-year-old boy

Mir Jalil Reiki Shaheed, son of Mama Abdul Qadeer Reiki, was abducted on February 13, 2009; he was the information secretary of the Baloch Republican Party. Mama Qadeer naturally strove to secure the release of his son because the systematic policy of ‘kill and dump’ had started in earnest and the severely mutilated bodies of Baloch activists had started appearing in Balochistan. All he got in return for his efforts to secure his son’s safety was false promises or threats. Realising that the state was hardly being challenged for its atrocities, he decided to start a protest against the inhuman and unjust abductions and killings of Baloch activists. The protest is now 2,287 days old. There was a token hunger strike protest outside the press clubs on July 28, 2009. Moreover, on September 27, 2009 the Voice of Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), an organisation for the recovery of the missing Baloch, was formed with Mama Qadeer as vice chairman and Nasrullah Baloch, whose uncle Asghar Bangulzai was abducted in 2001, as chairman.

مشہور ببر شیر سیسل جو زمبابوے کے ہوانگ نیشنل پارک میں رہتا تھا، جولائی کے اوائل میں مارا گیا۔ اسے بہلا پھسلا کر پارک سے باہر لایا گیا، اسے تھیو برونکہورسٹ نامی ایک شکاری اور مینیسوٹا سے تعلق رکھنے والے ایک مقامی کسان آنیسٹ ٹریمور انڈلووو کی مدد سے ایک امریکی دندان ساز والٹر جیمز پامر نے آڑی کمان کیساتھ زخمی کردیا۔ 40 گھنٹوں کی کھوج کے بعد پامر نے آخرکار اسے مار ڈالا۔ پامر نے اسے مارنے کیلئے تقریباً پچاس ہزار امریکی ڈالر خرچ کیے۔ جب یہ خبر پھیلی تو دنیا اس کیخلاف یک زبان ہوکر کھڑی ہوگئی اور زمبابوے کے صدر موگابے کے نام ایک درخواست دائر کی گئی جس میں پامر کو سزا دینے کا مطالبہ کیا گیا، چند گھنٹوں کے اندر اندر اس پر 164,500 سے زائد افراد نے دستخط کیے۔ افسوس کی بات ہے کہ یہاں حتیٰ کہ جب انسان مارے جائیں تو تب بھی اس کیخلاف کوئی کسی کو نہیں اکساتا۔

Desolating pestilence takes heart from the fact that the majority here refuses to see its real face under different excuses to console themselves for not supporting what is just and right 

Cecil, the popular lion who lived in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, was killed in early July. He was lured out of the park and wounded with a crossbow by a US dentist, Walter James Palmer, assisted by a hunter, Theo Bronkhorst, and a local farmer, Honest Trymore Ndlovu, from Minnesota. He was finally killed by Palmer after 40 hours of tracking. Palmer spent around $ 50,000 to kill him. When the news broke the world was up in arms and a petition to Zimbabwean President Mugabe demanding punishment for Palmer collected more than 164,500 signatures within hours. Sadly, here even when people are killed no one stirs.

خضدار میں توتک کے مقام پر 25 جنوری کو ایک چرواہے نے ایک اجتماعی قبر دیکھی جسکے بعد مقامی لوگ لاشیں نکالنے کیلئے وہاں جمع ہوئے۔ مڈل کلاس حکومت کے نمائندے لاشوں کی تعداد کو 13 تک محدود رکھنے کیلئے درد زِہ میں مبتلا دکھتے ہیں جبکہ چھن کر آنیوالی خبروں کے مطابق تعداد 150 اور اس سے زیادہ کی ہیں۔ یہاں تک کہ سپریم کورٹ کے ایک جج نے انکی تعداد 25 بتائی ہے۔ تعداد تو ایک طرف مگر یہ جعلی نمائندہ حکومت اس بات کو سمجھنے میں ناکام ہے کہ حتیٰ کہ ایک لاش بھی بہت زیادہ ہے لیکن دراصل بات یہ ہے کہ یہ حکومت بھی گزشتہ کی طرح عوام کی خدمت کرنے کے بجائے اپنی حکومت بچانے کے بارے میں

“When crimes become invisible”: On the Mass Graves of Khuzdar, Balochistan

A mass grave was discovered in Tootak, Khuzdar on the 25th January by a shepherd after which the locals converged there to recover bodies. The number of the bodies found, which the middle class government representatives are at pains to limit to 13, while reports filtering out put the number at around 150 and more. Even a Supreme Court (SC) judge said the number is 25. The numbers aside what this supposedly representative government fails to understand is that even a single body is one too many but then this government like that of the previous one is more concerned about surviving rather than serving the people.
