Balochistan unrest: Strike against alleged military drive in Awaran

A shutter-down strike was observed in different Baloch-dominated towns of the province on Sunday against alleged military operation in earthquake-hit Awaran district. Baloch National Front (BNF), an alliance of Baloch nationalist parties and student organisations had given the strike call to protest alleged military drive in different parts of Awaran district, including tehsil Mashkey.

Markets, shopping centres and business establishments remained closed in Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Pasni, Turbat, Mand, Hub, Kharan, Basima, Panjgur and other towns.

Balochistan shuts down over anti-election strike call

QUETTA: A complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in Baloch dominant district of Balochistan on Thursday (9 May 2013) on the call of Baloch National Front (BNF) against the general election. The Baloch National Front (BNF) is an alliance of Baloch National Movement (BNM) and Baloch Student Organization (Azad) BSO (A) had given a three-day strike call in Balochistan against the general elections. All busy markets, business centres and shopping malls remained closed during the day and a sense of fear ruled in general. The provincial capital also presented a dull look with lesser number of vehicles plying on the roads and most of the shops closed. Tight security measures were seen in the provincial capital with police backed by FC and other law enforcement agencies patrolling the area throughout the day.

Doctors targeted in Balochistan

Dr Deen Mohd Baloch-Dr Akbar MarriEurope: Even doctors are not safe in Balochistan. Dr. Deen Mohammad Baloch and Dr. Akbar Marri are among dozens of doctors who are missing or have been killed. The Pakistan Medical Association reports that at least 26 doctors have been killed in Balochistan in recent times and as many as 17 have been kidnapped. Khuzdar, Mastung, Quetta or Jaffarabad – doctors are not safe anywhere as they are allegedly being targeted by the security forces and spy agencies. Instead of taking action against criminals and providing protection to doctors, the Balochistan government has acted against several doctors by suspending them from their jobs. The doctors in the region have been on strike for months against kidnappings and targeted killings.

بلوچ نیشنل فرنٹ کی اپیل پر بلوچستان، کراچی اور اندرون سندھ بلوچ علاقوں میں پہیہ جام ہرتال ہے۔

اس دوران حب، تربت اور چاغی میں مظاہرے اور سڑکوں پر ٹائرجلانے کی اطلاعات ہیں تاہم کوئی ناخوشگوار واقعہ پیش نہیں آیا ہے۔ کوئٹہ میں ہڑتال کے دوران تمام کاروباری مراکزبند اور سڑکوں پر ٹرانسپورٹ نہ ہونے کے برابر تھی۔ اس موقع پر پولیس اور فرنٹیئر کور کے اہلکاروں کا گشت جاری ہے۔

کوئٹہ کے علاوہ نوشکی، دالبندین، چاغی، مستونگ، قلات، خضدار، لسبیلہ، حب، تربت، گوادر، پسنی، سبی، نصیرآباد، اور ڈیرہ بگٹی میں بھی ہرتال رہی۔

بی این ایف نے ہڑتال کی کال تربت کے پداگ کے علاقے سے آٹھ اپریل کوتین بلوچ قوم پرست راہنماؤں، غلام محمد بلوچ، شیرمحمد بلوچ، اور لالا منیر کی ہلاکت، بلوچستان میں جاری آپریشن، بلوچوں کی گمشدگی اور گرفتاریوں کے خلاف دی تھی۔

Shutter down strike observed in parts of Balochistan

QUETTA: Complete and partial shutter down strike was observed in the city and Baloch populated areas of the province on the call of Balochistan National Party (Mengal) against the killing of three Baloch leaders in Turbat a couple of weeks ago.

In Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Bolan and Noshki the strike call received a positive response and the traders unions kept their businesses shut.

In Mastung, the district government even announced a leave for all educational institutions.

Meanwhile, partial shutter down was observed in the provincial capital where most of the shopping centers and markets remained closed especially in Sariab and Brewery areas.

No incident of violence related to the strike has been reported from any part of the province.

Shutter-down strike in parts of Balochistan

QUETTA: Shutter-down strike was observed in various parts of Balochistan including Quetta on the call of Baloch National Front in protest of the killing of three Baloch leaders.

Enraged people in Quetta pelted the passing by vehicles with stones while four policemen were injured in a grenade attack.

Schools and other education institutions remained closed while presence in offices was thin due to unavailability of public transport.
