No justice for the missing Balochs

Many of the 18,000 missing persons from the province could be dead

For Sammi (16), it was not the gruelling 27- day march from Quetta to Karachi that was a problem. “It was nothing compared to the torture my family and I have gone through in the last four years since my father went missing,” she said.

Sammi is one of the 12 women who walked for 27 days, covering a distance of 700 km, to protest against the treatment meted out to their male family members. “If there is another long march I will walk again. They picked up my father from a hospital in Mashkay at 1 am. We don’t know anything about him after that,” she said, speaking over the phone from Karachi.

یہ کون لوگ ہیں جو 700 کلومیٹر کا سفرطے کر کے 27 دن میں پیدل کوئٹہ سے کراچی پہنچے ہیں؟ یہ کیوں اپنا گھر بار چھوڑ کر اپنے شہر سے کوسوں دور کراچی پریس کلب پر جوان چہروں کی تصویریں لئے بیٹھے ہیں؟ آنا ہی تھا تو اکیلے آجاتے اپنے خاندان کو چھوٹے چھوٹے بچوں کو ساتھ کیوں لے آئے؟با وجود اس کے کہ ہم ہر محفل میں سیاست پر گفتگو کر رہے ہوتے ہیں اور بڑے شوق سے ٹاک شوز پر مرتب تبصرے جھاڑ رہے ہوتے ہیں ان خاندانوں کے حوالے سے کوئی سوال ہمارے ذہن میں نہیں آیا۔ بلوچستان سے نکلنے والی گیس غائب ہو جائے تو ہم سڑکوں پر آجاتے ہیں مگر وہاں کے لوگ غائب ہو جائیں تو ہمارے سر پہ جوں تک نہیں رینگتی۔یہ رویہ کس چیز کی نشاندہی کر رہا ہے اگر یہ بھی سمجھانے کی ضرورت پڑ جائے تو مجھے کہنا پڑے گا کہ ہم سے زیادہ بے حس شاید کوئی نہ ہو۔

The Journey of Love Continues: Notes on VBMP Long March – Mir Mohammad Ali Taplur

The grueling historic long march by the relatives of Baloch missing persons and extra-judicially killed persons having started on October 27th finally reached Karachi on the 22nd of November. They spent 27 days on the road walking thirty kilometers or more daily without a break. They were no extreme sports practitioners who would easily survive the rigors of this walk but were ordinary folk women, children and men, Mama Qadeer is 70 year old and Ali Haider the wheelbarrow boy 10 years old, who survived this bitter test of their love and respect for their loved ones disappeared or killed by the Pakistani state under a systematic vicious ‘dirty war’ of which Baloch are victims. The blisters, the aches, the inconvenience, the cold, the blazing autumn sun did not deter these brave souls from surpassing Gandhi’s 390 kilometer Salt March of 1930. This march not only proved their love for their relatives but also their dedication to the cause those relatives died and disappeared for. Their march may be over but they and their supporters understand that the journey is far from over.

میں ایک بچے کو جانتا ہوں وہ کچھ سال پہلے تک اسکول کا بستہ اپنے کندھوں پر اُٹھایا کرتا تھا، پر قسمت کا بھی کیا کہنا جی! تمام تر حالات و واقعات سے باخبر ہونے کے باوجود اُسکا گُذر اُسی ’’برموداٹرائینگل‘‘ سے ہوا، جہاں سے اکثر لوگ اپنے پیاروں کے گُم ہوجانے کے قصے سناتے ہیں۔ اُس بچے کی خوش قسمتی یہ تھی کہ وہ خود تو اوتھل زیروپوائنٹ کے بدنام زمانہ’’برموداٹرائینگل‘‘ سے بچ نکلا۔۔۔۔۔ مگر بدقسمتی سے اُسکا والد اُس بے رحم ’’برمودا ٹرائینگل‘‘ کی نذر ہوگیا، اور اُنکی چار سالوں سے کوئی خبر نہیں ہے۔قدرت سے خفا یہ بچہ اسکول کے بستے کوگھر کے ایک کونے میں پھینک کراپنے گمشدہ والد کی تصاویریں اُٹھا کر اُنکی تلاش میں چل پڑا۔۔۔۔۔۔ مگر نتیجہ کچھ نہیں نکلا۔وہ چھ سالہ لڑکا اب دس سال کا ہوچکا ہے۔ قدرت کو شاید بچے کی چار سال پہلے خفا ہونے والی وہ بات ناگوار گذری تھی، اور قدرت ’’برموداٹرائینگل‘‘ پر اس قدر مہربان ہوگئی کہ زمین کا کیا ہلنا تھا نہ اُس بچے کا اسکول بچ سکا اور نہ ہی گھر کی چاردیواریاں، اور تو اور،اُسکے والدکی تصویریں ملبے میں دھنس گئیں۔۔۔۔۔ پھر رہی سہی کسر ’’برموداٹرائینگل‘‘ کے پھیرے داروں نے پوری کردی۔۔۔۔۔۔۔ اب نہ باہر سے اندر کوئی اِنکی مدد کو آسکتا ہے اور نہ ہی یہاں کے لوگ اپنی جانیں بچا کر باہر نکل سکتے ہیں۔

Baloch families’ quest for justice brings them to Karachi

After an arduous 27-day journey, families of 25 Baloch men vow to continue protesting until their beloved sons and brothers return

KARACHI: The rugged mountainous terrain of Sindh and Balochistan could not stop them; neither did the countless threats to their caravan and three gun attacks.

The 25 families of missing Baloch men reached Karachi on Friday – covering 780 kilometres of an inhospitable landscape on foot.

KARACHI: “I was pressurised by government and establishment for not launching long march” Mama Qadeer Baloch, vice chairman Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) said in his press conference at Karachi press club on Friday.

The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) led by Qadeer Baloch launched a long march from Quetta to Karachi on October 27 to press the authorities for recovery of missing Baloch political workers.

“No Ordinary Long March”: On the Long March for Baloch Rights

A protest long march of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) led by Mama Qadir Reki, vice chairman of VBMP, with as many as 20 families, including women and children, carrying placards, photographs of missing persons and banners inscribed with slogans in support of their demands started their journey from Quetta Press Club on Sunday 27th; it will culminate with a sit-in at Karachi Press Club. Many relatives even fear protesting in fear of further retribution. This isn’t a march to secure justice because the relatives of missing and dead had sought all avenues but were let down by all including the Supreme Court (SC) which has been long on rhetoric and miserably short on action. This 700 plus kilometer journey which the relatives of the missing and dead have undertaken is to highlight the injustices to Baloch people. The agencies, the army and Frontier Corps (FC) naturally couldn’t be expected to provide justice because even the most partial SC reluctantly admits that these are responsible for the missing and the mutilated dead. The civil society is expected to stand up for human rights violation but their enthusiasm regarding missing Baloch persons is quite uninspiring.
