Mir Hyrbyair Marri’s Message for the Prof. Saba Dashtyari Memorial Reference in Toronto

Dear Organisers of this event,

I am sending this very short message just to say that it is our duty and moral responsibility to continue the struggle for liberation. It is also to pay my respects to Qandeel-e-Baloch professor Saba Dashtyari Baloch.

I cannot express in words the sacrifices of Baloch martyrs who had given the ultimate price for speaking the truth and exposing the occupying states’ atrocities against Baloch Nation.  They preferred death with dignity over living under constant slavery. I salute the families of Baloch martyrs and of those who are suffering extreme torture in the custody of Pakistan and Iran. I feel the pain of those families and want to assure them that we will not let the sacrifices of their loved ones who are our heroes go in vain.

Tarek Fatah’s Message for Prof. Saba Dashtyari Memorial Reference in Toronto

My dear comrades,

My apologies for not being able to attend today’s event commemorating the death Prof. Saba Dashtyari, murdered in cold blood by the death squads of the Pakistan army.

I wish I could have been here tonight, but I am recovering from cancer in a hospital and am wheelchair bound.

Prof. Dashtyari is not the first Baloch killed by Pakistan as it continues its occupation of a country. Pakistan had no business entering Kalat, let alone ruling it.

Wendy Johnson’s Message for Prof. Saba Dashtyari Memorial Reference in Toronto

Since the assassination of Professor Dashtyari on June 1, I have added 20 dead to the database I maintain of Baloch missing and murdered. While I did not know Professor Dashtiyari personally, I know many who did.  And I am all too familiar with their deep anguish, for I have seen how my friends suffer over the loss of each and every Baloch.  And as I add names to this database, it leaves me wondering: How much suffering can a people take?

A memorial reference for Shaheed Professor Saba Dashtiyari in Toronto, Canada.

Press Release

Toronto, July 4, 2011 – Baloch Human Rights Council (Canada) and the International Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (IVBMP) will be holding a joint event in Toronto to honour the martyrdom of Prof. Saba Dashtyari, target killed by the Pakistani military death squad. He was assassinated on June 1, 2011 while walking back home in Quetta, Balochistan.

Prof. Dashtyari was a revolutionary scholar, a poet, and author of several books on Balochi language, literature, and history. His academic career at the Balochistan University was a beacon of light that inspired students such as Qambar Chakar who fearlessly embraced martyrdom in the custody of the Pakistani intelligence services after extreme degree of torture.

Since July 2010, the Pakistani paramilitary death squads have dumped more than 200 mutilated bodies of disappeared Baloch students, journalists, lawyers, teachers, and political activists in the wilderness. Forensic reports of the discovered bodies are indicative of extreme torture including broken bones, deep cuts, burns, and point-blank shots to the head.

In the backdrop of the liberation struggle in Balochistan and mass scale human rights violations committed by the Pakistan Army against Baloch civilians – Prof. Dashtyari took to the streets, armed only with his books, pen, and a voice that spoke without fear.

Join us to honour the martyrdom of this brave son of Balochistan who knew well that the price of freedom is blood and did not falter for a moment.

In history, there is no death – there is only continuity.
