‘Names of some missing Baloch men not in official list’

VBMPLongMarch-KarachiPressClub
KARACHI: The key organisation campaigning for the recovery of ‘missing Baloch persons’ on Tuesday rejected a government ‘list’, citing that the official document did not carry the names of a number of victims of enforced disappearances and were yet to return.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Abdul Qadeer Baloch, better known as Mama Qadeer, founder leader of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, said that more than 2,000 Baloch persons were still missing but the government list did not mention the names of a majority of them.

The Long March for Balochistan

by Priya Ravichandran

vbmp-long-march16
The Protest and the Long March for the missing Balochs needs International support and attention.

The distance from Quetta in Balochistan province to Karachi in the Sindh province of Pakistan is 700 km. It takes 18000 abducted Balochs and more than a 1000 killed and dumped Balochs to get there.

The Pakistan Frontier Corps (FC) with support from the government of Pakistan, have been for more than a decade systematically murdering, maiming and torturing people and dumping them in various parts of the province. In a bid to highlight these atrocities and to perhaps have some attention turned to their disaster hit province, the people from the province have undertaken a march to Karachi.

Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur

COMMENT : Morally convinced — Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur

The state and its institutions have been ruthless to the extreme and have already upped the ante against the Baloch because they persist with their struggle

Mir Mohammad Ali TalpurAt the recent Supreme Court missing persons case hearing in Islamabad, Raja Irshad, the lawyer representing the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI), while admitting that no evidence against the ‘Adiala 11’ existed said that they remained detained because these agencies were “morally convinced that they were involved in terrorism.” This statement has officially reiterated the ISI and MI’s position that if they are ‘morally convinced’ that someone is guilty then they do not need any evidence to kill, maim or incarcerate. It is worth mentioning that the bodies of the four original Adiala 11 accused were dumped, and when the others were presented in the court last year, such was their condition that a grief-stricken mother of an accused died of shock the next day. Next, the Attorney General admitted that 700 insurgents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were held without trial but would not be released. How many Baloch are being held has not been confessed; the Voice of Missing Baloch Persons (VMBP) says 14,000 are missing. The powerless and blustering Supreme Court merely threatens action like the legendary raise seeker who threatened, “Raise my salary, otherwise I will…”
