BALOCHISTAN: Baloch leader Dr Manan Baloch was murdered in a military operation early Saturday (30 January 2016) morning.
His four other companions were also killed when military attacked the house where they were staying in Balochistan’s Mastung area.
Dr Manan was the General Secretary of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), a political party seeking independence from Pakistan. Although the BNM claims its struggle is peaceful, the Pakistan military has killed dozens of its leaders and activists, including its founding president Ghulam Mohammed Baloch, due to their demand for an independent Balochistan.
“We have information about the release of 10 missing persons, but the officials concerned have not shared the report in this regard,” an official of the Balochistan government told Dawn.
Nasrullah Baloch, a spokesman for The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, told reporters that intelligence officials had taken away the four persons, all of whom hailed from Makran division. One of them had been missing for the past one year while the three others disappeared last month.
