Updated: Strong earthquake hits Balochistan, shaking felt in New Delhi

BALOCHISTAN: A strong earthquake of magnitude measuring 7.8 struck in Balochistan on Tuesday. It struck at 16:29 local time (11:29 GMT) at a depth of 23km (15 miles), 145 miles south-east of Dalbandin in Balochistan, US Geological Survey said.

The US Geological Survey has measured the quake at 7.8 magnitude. A “RED” alert has been issued by the agency. This means estimated fatalities of over 1,000 and damages costing over $1 billion.

Palash R GhoshThe massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck southeastern Iran on Tuesday and killed at least 57 people in both Iran and neighboring Pakistan occurred in one of the poorest, most desolate (but potentially most significant) regions of South Asia/Middle East.

The quake hit the sparsely populated Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchistan, a vast and desolate region long ignored by the Tehran government.

Occupied Balochistan: Balochistan earthquake victims staged protests on Friday, demanding the government do more to provide emergency relief and prevent the plundering of aid by the local administration, as they prepared to spend a fourth night sleeping out in the open.

Balochistan: 34 die in as earth quakes

Ocupied Balochistan: Balochistan bore the brunt of the powerful earthquake that struck southeast Iran near the border with Pakistan on Tuesday, killing at least 34 people and wounding more than 200.

The US Geological Survey said the 7.8 magnitude quake hit at 3:45pm (Pakistan time) at a depth of 82km. The epicentre was 198km southeast of the Iranian city of Zahedan and 250km northwest of Turbat in Balochistan. The tremors were felt across Pakistan and as far as the Gulf States and New Delhi.
