Iran Execute Two Baloch Prisoners in Zahedan Central Prison

According to media reports, two Baloch citizens were executed in Zahedan Central Prison, Zahedan city (Dozap), Sistan-Baluchistan on 8 November 2022 who had been sentenced to death for the killing of several army personnel.

According to the details, two Baloch prisoners Ishaq Askani son of Dilawar and Shoaib Baloch son of Ghulam Hussain were hanged at dawn of Tuesday, 8 November 2022 at the Zahedan Central Prison, Zahedan city in the Iranian-occupied Balochistan. The charges against both of them was “the murder of seven members of Iran’s military personnel”.

According to reliable sources, these two Baloch prisoners were traveling across the Goldsmid Line to visit their relatives in western Balochistan where they were arrested by the Iranian border forces.

Iran Executed Baluch Political Prisoners at Zahedan Prison

Baluch activists reported that two political prisoners, one of whom was a child at the time of his arrest, were executed on Saturday at the Central Zahedan Prison.

The two Baluch political prisoners Mohsen Ghanbarzahi and Einollah Ghanbarzahi, were executed on Saturday, 3 September 2022, two days after being taken to solitary confinement.

Tehran Perceives Executions as a Means of Power

In his report addressing the United Nations General Assembly on August 31, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his concerns over the increasing number of executions in Iran. He declared that at least 333 inmates were hanged in 2021, including 17 women and three juvenile offenders, compared to 267 in 2020.

Guterres also said the Iranian regime is responsible for 60 percent of executions in the Middle East and North Africa. Reports indicate this number is on the rise, and the regime has executed at least 105 prisoners in 2022’s first quarter.
