“When crimes become invisible”: On the Mass Graves of Khuzdar, Balochistan

Mir Muhammad Ali TalpurA mass grave was discovered in Tootak, Khuzdar on the 25th January by a shepherd after which the locals converged there to recover bodies. The number of the bodies found, which the middle class government representatives are at pains to limit to 13, while reports filtering out put the number at around 150 and more. Even a Supreme Court (SC) judge said the number is 25. The numbers aside what this supposedly representative government fails to understand is that even a single body is one too many but then this government like that of the previous one is more concerned about surviving rather than serving the people.

Baloch discontent

Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur

It is the Baloch resistance that now defines the social and political relations in Balochistan and people proudly indentify themselves with Sarmachars

Mir Muhammad Ali TalpurBalochistan of today is in turmoil because it is a huge battleground; arrayed on one side are the freedom-seeking Baloch while, on the other are the state, the pro-establishment sardars and politicians, the fundamentalist forces, and those hungry for Balochistan’s resources.

The Baloch are under attack as they try to thwart designs on their land.

Balochistan: The untold story of Pakistan’s other war

balochistan-war-bbc-news
Pakistan’s on-off dialogue with the Taliban has been commanding headlines and the attention of politicians and diplomats. But there has been little interest in a dialogue that could end the longest civil war in Pakistan’s history, says guest columnist Ahmed Rashid.

“Why do they fear books?” – Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur

Baloch should acquire what colonizers call subversive education because the education that colonizers provide can only pollute minds and blunt the will for liberty

Mir Muhammad Ali TalpurOn January 13, the Frontier Corps (FC) of Balochistan raided a book fair being held at Atta Shad Degree College Turbat dispersing students anxious to get books for reading and confiscating books which they termed as provocative and seditious.

After this unjust and illegal raid on the College book fair, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Azam  of FC while talking to the media said that the FC had seized anti-Pakistan literature, books, maps, posters, banners and other subversive material.

“Black Humour”: On the Politicians Promise – Mir Mohammed Ali Talpur

During the recent visit to Awaran Nawaz Sharif promised its miraculous rehabilitation; he couldn’t have been serious because it is eight years since Balakot earthquake and rehabilitation has not even been half completed there yet.

Mir Muhammad Ali TalpurI am convinced that if promises were bombs there wouldn’t be a soul left alive here. Promises come cheap and are the handiest tool to bamboozle people into believing fantasies they would otherwise reject as garbage. Here even the solemn but empty promises of courts recovering Baloch missing persons, of trying Musharraf for treason, of running vehicles on water and of no support for the good Talibans are unqualifiedly believed. The people are gullible and promise makers deviously astute who rely on the extremely short memory disease which afflicts the people here and always get away with unfulfilled promises. This I suppose has got much to do with the in-built fatalism which is part of psyche in this region’s people and has a lot to do with religion and of course the effects of prolonged colonialism not to mention the overwhelming influence of ‘state narrative’ through education and media; a narrative which has promoted and encouraged the evils of fundamentalism, passivity and acquiescence to prosper here.

Balochistan mourns on the Baloch people sufferings

Dead-Bodies-Rehan-660x330
BALOCHISTAN: Baloch people are facing Pakistan Army barbarism even in the tragic days of Earth quake. The mutilated, and bullet riddled dead bodies of five Baloch people were recovered from Panjgur. As per sources the Pakistani forces disappeared many people and took them in illegal detention from Yar Mohammad Market, Panjgoor. The military operation in Panjgoor is believed, was conducted as a retaliation against the civilian people as a retaliation by the Pakistani Forces. The freedom Fighters one day earlier attacked on an army convoy in Parom Panjgoor, where the Pakistani forces faced many losses. Most of the mutilated dead bodies identification is yet unknown.

COMMENT: Awaran — Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur

The government and its ministers along with the army are quick to blame the Baloch for putting up hurdles in relief work and the social media and the mainstream media join the chorus

Mir Muhammad Ali TalpurAwaran, a place that already was suffering from shocks of long-drawn army and Frontier Corps operations in their effort to contain the brave and unflinching resistance that Dr Allah Nazar and the people there are putting up against their attempts to make people meekly submit to exploitation, was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on September 24. The UN humanitarian envoy, Dr Abdullah Al-Matouq, said the UN was ready to help with relief work in Balochistan’s earthquake-affected areas but the Pakistani authorities have refused. This isn’t the first time that the disaster-stricken Baloch have been left at the mercy of the vagaries of nature and elements on a flimsy security concerns excuse for which the establishment itself is to blame. When Balochistan was battered by Cyclone Yemyin in June 2007 causing flooding affecting 1.5 million people, the international relief organisations were suddenly stopped on the security concerns excuse. Even the relief operations of the Baloch Students Organisation (BSO) and other nationalist organisations were stopped and camps disbanded. The same is true today; early Thursday morning some Baloch students of Dera Ghazi Khan (DGK) put up a camp at the Traffic Chowk near the DGK Press Club to collect supplies for the Awaran quake victims but were soon rudely stopped by intelligence agencies personnel. Independent news reports confirm that the relief supplies being sent by individuals and NGOs are stopped by the FC, which says only it will distribute them. The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Agency handouts claiming relief are bogus as reports prove no supplies had reached either Gajjar or Malaar till Friday.
