European Parliament Hosts Event on Pakistan’s Baluchistan

STRASBOURG, France, June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire: Baluchistan House, in partnership with Members of the European Parliament, hosted an event in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the topic of “Pakistan’s Baluchistan: Its Human Rights Abuses”.

The conference was attended by MEPs, European Commission officials, Representatives from Think Tanks, European Parliament Staff and Baluch diaspora.

International diplomacy has been one of the weakest sides of the Baloch movement for an independent state

Some people are touting it as one of the biggest diplomatic achievements for the Baloch cause at an international level. Others are calling it another photo session of a Baloch leader with some white politicians.

In the photos, Hammal Haider Baloch, the foreign spokesman for the Baloch National Movement (BNM), is surrounded by a bunch of European parliamentarians who seem to be keenly listening to what Mr Baloch is saying.

European Parliament Raises Concerns About Baluchistan

STRASBOURG, France, April 16, 2016: During a debate in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 14th April 2016, titled “Human Rights Situation in Pakistan: in particular the attack in Lahore,” Mr. Alberto Cirio raised the issue of the killing of minorities, specifically Christians and Baluchis, in Pakistan.

Subsequently, in a private interview, Mr. Cirio mentioned that Pakistan has been the biggest sponsor of international terrorism, evident from the manner in which Osama Bin Laden is suspected of having been supported and sheltered by the Pakistan Army and ISI, adjacent to an important Pakistan Army establishment.

Tadeusz CymanskiBaluchistan has a long history of insurgency with nationalist groups and locals advocating greater autonomy. The Baluchistan people have been demanding for economic emancipation, concretely through a bigger share of the revenue generated by the province’s natural resources, principally natural gas. Despite being rich in natural resources, the Baluch people remain economically marginalized and receive little or no benefit from the Baluchistan economy.

Baluchistan at European Parliament: Two events with opposing perspectives

The difficulty with such parties stems from their misrepresentation of the Baluch struggle and the sense of Baluch people’s belonging at open and democratic forums. Their approach to the Baluch issue is a treacherous act at a time where pro-independent Baluch leaders and activists are actively engaging international politicians in search of a broad international recognition and support to the liberation of Baluchistan.

abdullah-balochIn the first half of the October 2013, two events were held at the European Parliament to discuss the issue of Baluch and Baluchistan.

The first event albeit with little importance was organised by a non-governmental organisation the “Un-represented Nations & Peoples Organisation” to promote a forged working plan for Baluch, Kurds, Arabs and others in a supposedly representative Iran on 9th Oct 2013. It was attended by Baluch, Kurdish, Arab political parties.

Parliamentarians gather to express solidarity with oppressed citizens of Baluchistan

Baluchistan Destiny DeniedBrussels: Legislators from around the globe gathered at the European Parliament at Brussels, Belgium this week to denounce the Pakistani government’s kill-and-dump policy in Baluchistan and to express their support for democracy, human rights and the rule of law in the beleaguered province.

The event ‘Baluchistan: Destiny Denied’ was hosted by the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Parliament and Baluchistan House.

Introducing the event, Paulo Casaca, executive director of South Asia Democratic Forum, highlighted the continuing oppression of the Baluch people and the systematic denial of their rights by the Pakistani government.

US Congressman backs Balochistan’s right of self determination

sensenbrenner-150x150BRUSSELS: A member the U.S. House of Representatives has called upon the Pakistan government to stop its authoritarian measures in Balochistan and to respect the right to self-determination of the Baloch people.

In a message to an event organized at the European Parliament in Brussels titled Balochistan: Destiny Denied, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, who is member of the House Judiciary Committee and member of the Crime, Terror and Homeland Security Sub-Commitee, called on the Pakistan government to “cease its authoritarian operations” in Balochistan. He said, “Americans empathize with Balochistan’s call for self-determination.”

Pakistan grilled by European Parliament for it’s Kill and Dump policy in Baluchistan

Brussels: The Human rights activists in Baluchistan have informed the International human rights community several times about the abduction of members of Baluch National Movement by Pakistani intelligence and how their body were found dumped near their houses but no stringent action has been taken against the concerned authorities despite of tons of evidence collected against the Pakistan authority.

Alexander Alvaro, Member of European Parliament and member of South Asia Peace Forum (SAPF) slammed Pakistan for numerous reports of Human rights violations in Baluchistan. He particularly showed concern that Baluchistan despite being an international issue; few steps have been taken by the international Community to make Pakistan`s intelligence and security agencies answerable for continuing human rights violations in Baluchistan.

Polish Euro MP slams Pak’s kill, dump policy of journalists, other civilians in Balochistan

Brussels, Dec.3 (ANI): A Polish Euro MP has condemned Pakistan’s kill and dump policy of journalists and other civilians in Balochistan Ryszard Czarnecki, Member of the European Parliament and the Chairman of the Friends of Balochistan in the European Parliament said the Pakistani Government claims that the number of missing persons in Balochistan has declined; it is only because many of them have lately been found dead.

Since June 2010, more than 230 bodies of the previously missing persons have been dumped at abandoned places in the largest but the least populated province. According to the Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ), 10 journalists have been killed so far this year.
