US House of Representatives passes anti-Pakistan measure, ignoring White House objection

WASHINGTON: Ignoring objections of the White House , the Republican-majority House of Representatives has approved the National Defense Authorisation Act which blocks $450-million aid to Pakistan for failing to take action against the dreaded Haqqani network.

The NDAA 2017 was passed by the US House of Representative (277-147) on Wednesday night, which, among others, included approval of three major amendments reflecting the strong anti-Pak sentiment prevailing among the US lawmaker

John Solecki and UN should play their role for release of Zakir Majeed Baloch: Family

Karachi: The family of Baloch student leader, Zakir Majeed Baloch, protested in front of Karachi Press Club, on Monday, for his recovery. Along with the family of Zakir Majeed, many other Baloch women, men and children participated in the protest. The protestors were holding banners and placards, which bore slogans condemning the human rights violations and continuous abduction of Baloch people.

Sister of Zakir Majeed, while addressing, the protesters said that her brother was abducted on 8th June 2009 along with two of his friends. His friends were later released but her brother continues to remain missing. Zakir Majeed was a Baloch political activist and he was abducted because of the same reason, she added.

Baloch people have a right to self-determination: US lawmaker

Washington: Voicing concern over the alleged human rights violations in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, a top US lawmaker has said that Baloch people have a right to self-determination.

“This abysmal human rights record of the Pakistani government is shameful. It is even worse because American foreign and military aid contributes to strengthening the security forces which kill innocent Balochis. The Baloch people have a right to self-determination and not to live under the control of Islamabad, if they choose,” Congressman Dana Rohrabacher said in his remarks in the US House of Representatives on Friday.

Rep. Rohrabacher to DHS: Don’t Use Visas as Political Weapon Against Baluchs

US government needs to “end its partnership with the ISI in repressing the Balochi people”

Washington, May 10 – Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano inquiring about the 2008 incident when the representative to the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization for Baluchistan, Noordin Mengal, was denied entry into the United States. Mr. Mengal is a British citizen and carried a British passport, but was still detained entry at Newark’s Liberty Airport and put on a flight out of the United States. Additionally, in 2010 Mr. Mengal was denied a visa to come to the United States specifically to address a meeting sponsored by an organization associated with a major university regarding human rights in Baluchistan. He was personally invited by the highly respected organizer of the event.
