All my life I have wondered why this country with so much potential has lagged so far behind even those European countries that were decimated by WW II or Japan which was minced and milled with A-bombs for its affront of Pearl Harbour. This country was unscathed by any disaster of those proportions.
The human material’s quality at the top has always been suspect here, but then too laws of natural development do take their course in spite of human follies. Something of titanic proportions must have been awry here to have taken us backwards instead of forward.
This time we have decided to continue the sit-in till the end to make our protest fruitful without falling for their false consolations. These views have been expressed by Sammi Deen Baloch, the leader of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, on the social networking site.
The protest sit-in in Quetta against the Ziarat incident has entered its fifth day. Even after the heavy rain, the families of the missing persons are continuing their protest, while on the first day of the demonstration, the protesters had to face police violence and tear gas shelling.

The resources of Balochistan are being squandered without a thought for the human or environmental consequences. The frantic and frenzied pace of bequeathing concessions and privileges to foreign firms to exploit the resources of Balochistan has predictably intensified in scale and magnitude. The human and historical rights of the people there have always been ignored and trampled upon arrogantly and callously.
The army operations, the forced disappearances, the extra-judicial killings, the incarcerations, the acquisition of land by the armed forces under different pretexts, the Gwadar land scams and concessions to foreign firms are all a part of an established policy of depriving the people of their resources and rights. The main thrust of this policy is to subdue the populace through economic deprivation. The goal is to coerce the population into acquiescence so that exploitation can be conducted in a threat-free environment of submissive people.
Strong reactions and condemnation are still pouring in from different Baloch circles against the Ziarat incident.
Baloch pro-independent leader Dr. Allah Nizar Baloch, said in a brief statement on the social media website tweeter that Where is the civilized world @UN, #US and world powers that have conditioned their foreign policy with upholding human rights. Recent massacre of nine Baloch in Balochistan is reenactment of Bosnia all over again. Thus no power on earth can deny Baloch to wage a defensive war.
Five of the nine people killed in the fake encounter in the so-called Ziarat operation by the Pakistan army have been identified.
The identification of the dead bodies kept in the Civil Hospital of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, continues. It should be remembered that a few days back, Pakistani forces conducted a military operation in Ziarat, district of Balochistan and claimed to have killed nine people in an encounter and declared them as BLA fighters. However, the BLA rejected this claim of the forces.
So far, five persons have been identified from the nine killed in the fake encounter as enforced disappeared persons who were already in the custody of Pakistani forces.
