Washington, D.C: The Sindhi Foundation will be holding a press conference addressing enforced disappearances in Sindh province of Pakistan, with emphasis on the recent disappearance of notable human rights activist and convener of Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh, Punhal Sario. Sario was last seen on the 3rd of August when he was forcibly taken by Pakistani agencies. According to Article 2 of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, each state is has an obligation to create and maintain conditions necessary to defend human rights within their jurisdiction.
Despite this, the establishment has neglected not only to provide these conditions, but also to prosecute the individuals responsible for these violations. Police reports have been filed and complaints submitted to the UN’s Working Group on Enforced Disappearances, but action has yet to be taken and Mr. Sario’s whereabouts and fate are currently unknown.
The conference will be held on the 18th of October from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at the National Press Club in the Zenger Room to discuss these issues and propose solutions. The National Press Club is located at 529 14th street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20045
