Why politics is necessary for students

November 26, 1967, is the foundation day of the Baloch Students’ Organization and it is now 49 years old.

By: Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur

Mir Muhammad Ali TalpurIn the intervening years, it has seen a lot of ups and downs but has proved its mettle in the Baloch national struggle and remains as its vanguard, the nursery for the future Baloch leadership. Now it has to shoulder even more responsibilities: to educate, both politically and academically, the Baloch youth because the Pakistani establishment considers the politically-educated youth as the greatest threat to its exploitation and injustices in Balochistan. The BSO-Azad upholds its legacy faithfully.

Baloch students and friends in Canada asked me write something on “Why politics is necessary for students”. What I wrote was read there at a seminar and here I am sharing it with you.

Marri resources belong to all Baloch, says exiled leader

rass-koh-mountains-chaghi

LONDON: Exiled Baloch nationalist leader Mir Sher Alam Marri has said that no individual has the right to decide about the Marri resources and any attempt to utilise these resource will cause chaos, causing damage and internal divisions.

Sher Alam Marri, son of renowned nationalist Mohammad Marri (General Sheroff), said that it was duty of the Marri tribe to follow the will of late Nawab Khair Baksh Marri who made his youngest son Mehran Marri chief (Nawab) of the Marri tribe and left a will with the Marri tribe elders. He said Nawabzada Jangeez Marri’s recent statement that he had been given permission by the Marri tribe to utilise the natural resources in Marri areas was unfortunate and counter-productive.

Wahid Baloch case

wahid-baloch-120-days

IT is a case that has been registered with the Sindh High Court simply as incident number 4,247. Missing since July 26, social activist and writer Abdul Wahid Baloch was allegedly taken into custody by two men in plainclothes while travelling on a bus en route to Karachi with a friend. His distressed family was obstructed from registering an FIR — a legal requirement for investigation — until the court finally instructed the police to do so. It is revealing that in an unusual move, the FIR was registered against “covert law-enforcement agencies” on Sept 28 with the help of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

In May 2015, Mahabad, the capital of Iran’s Kurdish region, burned as riots and protests spread following the mysterious death of a young Kurdish woman in the city. Activists claimed that she had fallen to her death from the window of a hotel while escaping an attempted rape by an Iranian security official. The incident garnered international attention and was the focal point for geo-political propaganda battles.

The riots in Mahabad were not only indicative of the latent rage among the Kurdish population, but were also a symbolic reminder of the flame that has long burned within the city of Mahabad.
