Armed persons enter house of Zafarullah Jattak in Usta Muhammad and open indiscriminate firing, killing him on the spot
BALOCHISTAN: Unidentified men on Sunday shot dead journalist Zafarullah Jattak in Goth Jorak Jattak area of Usta Muhammad.
According to Usta Muhammad Deputy Superintendent of Police Khawand Bukhsh, the people carrying sophisticated weapons barged into Zafar’s home and opened fire on him. “As a result of intense firing he died on the spot while his killers managed to escape,” he added. Police and rescue workers rushed to the scene and shifted the body to a hospital for autopsy. Doctors said Zafar received multiple bullets in his head and chest.
“Motive behind the killing can be an old enmity as Zafar and his brother had complained that someone was threatening their family and had also asked for security,” Khawand Bukhsh said.
Meanwhile, a large number of journalists reached the hospital. Later, the Usta Muhammad Press Club announced a three-day mourning against the killing. An emergency session was chaired by Ali Mardan Jamali where the journalists gave a three-day deadline to the government to arrest the culprits behind the killing. “Zafar had been receiving death threats for the past two weeks and he informed the police as well, but they didn’t provide him adequate security,” journalists said in a joint statement.
