WSC, BHRC Observe International Day to Support Victims of Torture

Toronto, June 28, 2014 – World Sindhi Congress (Canada) and Baloch Human Rights Council (Canada) held a joint event to observe the United Nation’s 26 June International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. A large number of Sindhi and Baloch community members and families attended the event in Toronto to express their support for the victims of torture and enforced disappearances in Sindh and Balochistan.

Speakers paid rich tribute to Khair Bakhsh Marri, legendary leader of Balochistan’s independence struggle and elaborated on his life and struggle that has greatly contributed and influenced the political movements in Balochistan. Audience observed a moment of silence to honour the passing away of Khair Bakhsh Marri and the uncompromising struggle he steadfastly led to free Balochistan from the military occupation by Pakistan in 1948.

وہ سردار دودا خان کی بھی اولاد میں سے تھے جن کے تحت مریوں نے مئی 1840 میں سارتاف کے علاقے میں لیفٹیننٹ والپول کلارک کی قیادت میں برطانوی فوجیوں کا مکمل صفایا کیا تھا۔ پھر اگست 1840 میں، میجر کلبورن کے تحت ایک بڑی فوج کاہان کی امداد کو بھیجی گئی لیکن نفسک سے ہی اسکا راستہ تبدیل کرلیا گیا۔

Many political analysts claim that Nawab Sahib was a late convert to the idea of an independent Balochistan; but this is patently incorrect.

NAWAB Khair Bakhsh Marri, born on Feb 29, 1928, was named after his illustrious grandfather who, unwilling to provide Marris as cannon fodder for the First World War, fought the historic battles of Gumbaz and Harab against the British in 1918.

He was also a descendent of Sardar Dodah Khan, under whom the Marris in May 1840, at Sartaaf, decimated the troops led by Lt Walpole Clarke. Again in August 1840, a large force under Major Clibborn sent for relieving Kahan was routed at Nafusk.

فورسز نے پنجگور میں آپریشن کرکے کئی گھروں کو نذر آتش و کئی افراد کو اغواء کرکے نا معلوم مقام پرلے گئے،علاقے میں رسائی نہ ہونے کی وجہ سے اب تک لاپتہ افراد میں سلال بلوچ،اویس بلوچ،خیر بخش بلوچ اور حضور بخش بلوچ کے نام معلوم ہوسکیں۔

بلوچ ہیومین رائٹس آرگنائزیشن کے ترجمان نے اپنے اخباری بیان میں کہا کہ16 جون2014 کو صبح 8بجے سے پاکستانی فورسز نے بلوچستان کے علاقہ پنجگور پروم کو محاصر ہ میں لیکر داخلی و خارجی راستوں کو بند کرکے بڑی تعداد میں آپریشن کا سلسلہ شروع کردیاہے۔آپریشن میں 50سے زائدفوجی گاڑیوں اور ہزاروں کی تعداد سے زائد فوجی اہلکار حصہ لی رہے ہیں۔جس میں فوجی ٹرک و بکتر بند گاڑیاں بھی شامل ہیں۔

BALOCHISTAN: According the sources of Baloch Republican Party Media cell, Pakistani army launched an operation in Diz area of Paroom  a Tehsil of Panjgur District in Balochistan on Monday 17 June 2014.

The army personnel have break into the houses of Baloch civilians and violated privacy of the households. Badly tortured and beaten up women and children after looting valuables of their houses.

چند سال پہلے جب میری ملاقات بابا مری کے ساتھ نہیں ہوئی تھی میں نے انکے جلاوطنی کے زمانے کے ایک دوست سے انکے متعلق پوچھا کہ بابا کیسے مزاج کے انسان ہیں؟ انہوں نے جواب میں صرف اتنا کہا کہ آپ نے کبھی گوتم بدھ کے بارے میں سنا ہے؟ بس انہیں دیکھ کر گوتم بدھ کا گمان ہوتا ہے، جلاوطنی میں جب ہم ساتھ تھے تو وہ خود بیلچہ لے کر اپنے رہائش گاہ کی چھت پر جمی برف ہٹاتے تھے. وہ غرور سے نا واقف انسان ہیں۔

KARACHI: A week after ending his hunger strike at the Karachi Press Club, Lateef Johar says he is gaining his strength.

Speaking to Dawn by telephone from an undisclosed location, Johar, an activist of the the Balochistan Student Organisation-Azad, says he is advised to take light food and lots of fluids after he lost about 20 kilos in four weeks. Johar cannot yet walk properly due to abdominal pain and amid the close supervision of his family members, he is asked to take it easy for a while. But he says: “This is the only thing I cannot do. There’s a threat to my life and it has been there since the day I decided to protest our leader’s abduction.”
