European Union envoy meets VBMP Long March leaders

ISLAMABAD: A European Union (EU) delegation on Wednesday met with representatives of the Voice of Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) Long March leaders, and expressed its concern with the large number of enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings in different parts of Balochistan.

Head of the EU Delegation to Pakistan, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, while meeting representatives of the VBMP Long March from Quetta to Islamabad appealed for assistance in reuniting them with their missing family members.

While underlying the fact that Balochistan is an integral part of Pakistan, the ambassador’s office said in a statement European Union was ‘disturbed’ by the lack of information concerning many of those who disappeared in Balochistan and elsewhere.

“It is the responsibility of both the federal and provincial government, as well as the security agencies, to ensure the safety of all Pakistani citizens – irrespective of their political views or religious beliefs”, said the ambassador.
