KARACHI: A complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in interior Sindh and partial in the metropolis, however, Sindhi and Baloch localities of the city were completely closed in response to the call given by the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) against what it called the federal government’s attitude of destroying substantiation of the suspected murder of deceased JSQM Chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi. JSQM has blamed the government for delaying Autopsy Examination Report (AER) and changing the viscera samples taken from the deceased’s body.
JSQM has also accused Pakistan Rangers and Police of arresting more than 500 workers across Sindh including Dera Morr Jacobabad, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Larkana and Karachi. According reports, over a dozen vehicles were set to fire in deferent cities of the province.
The big and small cities and towns remained closed that include Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, Mithi, Mirpur Sakro, Islam Kot, Faizganj, Moro, Garhi Khuda Bukhsh, Dokri, Badah, Umerkot, Ratodero, Daur, Garhi Mori, Naushero Feroze. Mirpurkhas, Sann, Mehar, Bhirya City, Khairpur, Wada Machoon, Babarlo, Mithyani, Kandyaro, Gambat, Ranipur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Shahdadkot, Nauo Dero, Nawabshah city, Sakrand, Qazi Ahmad, Hala, Saeedabad, Matiari, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Talhar, Tando Adam and Jamshoro. However, Karachi’s Sindhi and Baloch localities, including Bhitai Abad, Sachal Goth, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Lyari, Bilal Colony, Mehran Town, Maripur, Chakra Goth Baloch Colony, Orangi, Bhains Colony, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Lemo Gabol Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Hussein Hazara Goth and Mosmyat were also closed.
Other nationalist parties also supported the strike. The activists of JSQM and other Sindhi nationalist parties staged a sit-in on the Indus, Mehran, Super and National Highways in Sindh. They also held demonstrations against the suspected murder of the JSQM chief.
Acting chairman JSQM Dr Niaz Kalani told Daily Times: “JSQM has already demanded examining of the AER of viscera samples’ of their Shaheed chairman from an internationally recognised and impartial laboratory/hospital.”
He said, “The government’s deceitfulness has been exposed by its act of sending visceral samples to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where no proper Bacteriological Technology and any qualified examiner was available.”
Replying to a query, he said, “We had called a peaceful shutter-down strike in Sindh. Some incidents of violence were witnessed in some cities, which were committed to degrade JSQM’s moral among the masses. “We are followers of our great leader Sain GM Syed who believed in non-violence philosophy and our politics is based on peaceful policy.”
