QUETTA: A complete shutter down strike was observed in Baloch dominated areas of Balochistan on Saturday in protest against the killing of Ghaffar Lango, whose body was found in Gadani area on Friday. Call for the strike was given by Baloch National Front and was supported by various student organisations.
All shops, markets, commercial establishments, banks, restaurants and even chemists’ shops remained closed on the day. Traffic was thin on the roads, as people preferred to stay within boundary walls of their homes, quietly supporting call for the strike. Routine life in major parts of Balochistan remained paralyzed on Saturday.
Strike was observed in Panjgur, Gawadar, Turbat, Pasni Jiwani, Ormara, Mastung, Mongechar, Awaran, Tump, Hushap, Mand, Buleida, Khuzdar, Surab, Kalat and other areas.
Meanwhile, Baloch Student Organisation-Azad staged a protest demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club and paid glowing tributes to Lango, who, they said had sacrificed his life for the Baloch movement. Protesting students termed the killing of Lango ethnic cleansing of Baloch political opponents of the government. “We have received over 200 dead bodies of Baloch fighters so far killed in illegal custody of government functionaries,” they claimed.
