KALAT: Unidentified persons threw acid on the faces of three sisters in Balochistan’s Kalat district on Thursday afternoon.
According to the initial reports, the condition of two victims is reported to be serious as one of them has been shifted to Balochistan capital, Quetta, for immediate medical treatment.
Local sources said three sisters, whose names could not be ascertained soon after the incident, belonged to Pandarani area of Kalat District. They were on their way from Babu Mohela to Khel town in Kalat when unknown people riding a motorcycle threw acid on their faces. The attackers manged to flee in thin air while two of the victims received serious injuries.
“These three sisters come from a very poor family,” said a local resident while talking to the Baloch Hal, ” One of them has been shifted to Quetta while two others have been hospitalized in Kalat. They do not seem to have the financial resources to get immediate treatment from Quetta.”
No group has accepted responsibility for the attack on the girls.
Thursday’s attack with acid on the girls has come weeks after a similar attack on two sisters in Chagai district where women had been warned not to get out of their homes by an underground group that identified itself as Baloch Ghareethmand Group.
Similarly, a female assistant professor of the University of Balochistan had been shot dead in Quetta two days ago. Fresh attacks on women in Balochistan have triggered an unprecedented wave of fear and insecurity among the girls of Balochistan, mainly the students and those who work in different offices.
Meanwhile, activists of the Baloch National Front (BNF) protested against the acid throwing incident on three sisters in Kalat by blocking the Quetta-Karachi National Highway.
