An appeal to Baloch intellectuals

Honorable Professor Badalkhan, Waja Ismail Ameeri, Waja Waleed Garboni and other intellectuals:

Initially, my views matched your standpoint but some very alert minds in Canada, U.A.E., Russia and Sweden made me realize I was wrong.

My humble submission is after the profound statement of Waja Asa Zaffar in Daily Tawar newspaper on February 16, 2010 this debate of to go or not to go, should end once and for all.

Waja Asa Zaffar is on the exalted position of the president of the Baloch National Movement that was once chaired by our brother, friend and Martyr Ghulam Mohammed Baloch. My salutes to the mothers of Waja Ghulam Mohammed, Lala Munir and Rasool Bakhsh Mengal who gave birth to such brave sons. B.N.M. is a party of martyrs and if its president speaks, we who live in the safety of US and West, should listen and follow.

About the Bangkok conference, Waja Asa Zaffar said, “Baloch living overseas should do their level best to stop dubious elements from exploiting the Baloch struggle inside Balochistan for their personal benefit.”

He said in his statement the right to represent the Baloch struggle in international fora rests with only those organizations who are vanguard of the liberation struggle and practically involved in the independence movement and whose actions are visible on the ground in Balochistan.

Similar is the case with B.R.P. and B.S.O., especially B.S.O. Azad, and all other parties and groups within the Balochistan National Front — they are party of martyrs and we owe our identity to them. Their decision should be final in such matters. We should show utmost respect to each and every word they utter.

As much as you three wajas are honorable, sincere and committed to the Baloch cause, we have to follow the instructions that come from inside Balochistan, not outside. Not from Washington. Not from Beijing. Not from New Delhi. Hope this point is crystal clear to all and sundry.

It is the brave heroes and heroines inside Balochistan who are carrying on the daily struggle of facing the killings, torture, humilations at the hands of an extremely ruthless and barbaric military. It is the views of these people inside Balochistan whose word should be Gospel for us. For we who live outside Balochistan are nothing minus them.

The voice of Baloch liberation has spoken: first it was the very powerful statement in Daily Tawar, in whose drafting or release I had no role whatsoever in spite of the blatant, fabricated and uncalled for falsehood that ensued thereafter. I fully support the statement, nonetheless.

Then it was the brilliant report in Radio Gwank by Samundar Askani about why Bangkok is suspect, followed by the nice narrative by young Mureed Baluch in http://www.gwank.org.

I am confident in the coming days the other key players in Baluchistan, heroines like Banuk Karima Baloch — our proud daughter, the first girl to be charged with sedition and member of a family of martyrs –, and other representative organizations in the Baloch National Front would come out with their bold stand on Bangkok.

We who live outside Balochistan, should humbly bow our heads before the resistance inside Balochistan. Trying to thrust our views on them, no matter how intellectually rich they may sound, will be a fatal blunder. It is them, the blood and tears of the brave daughters and sons inside Balochistan, that has catapulted Balochistan on the regional agenda.

Likewise, the Three Stars of Baluchistan- – Mir Hyrbyair Marri, Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti and Dr. Allah Nazar — and all other honorable leaders who prove by their daily actions they believe in an independent Balochistan and show political steadfastness must be taken into full confidence on all issues related to Balochistan struggle in international forums. Regardless of their business acumen, no actor from anywhere should try to bypass them.

Not a leaf should stir without the will of the independence leaders.

I am sorry to note one of the invitees, Dr. Wahid Baloch is still not showing remorse over his totally uncalled for attacks on Shaheed Ghulam Mohammed Baloch, Lala Munir Baloch and Sher Mohammed Baloch. The last sips of tea that were gulped by these martyrs were turned into a butt of ridicule by him. Everyone can see in his latest explanation he is still justifying why he called Shaheed Ghulam Mohammed an I.S.I. agent, dragging in the issue of John Solecki, in stead of saying he was wrong. Let alone his abuses targeting me, he has once again spewed venom against one of the main symbols of Baloch resistance, an idea and institution Nawab Khair Baksh Marri in the comments section to my write-up under the fake alias of Baloch Talk:

Dr. Wahid Baloch has the full right to differ with Nawab Marri’s politics and ideology, but is it fair that they call one of our most revered leaders an I.S.I. agent?

In spite of the harm he tried to inflict on us by reporting us to the F.B.I. we were members of the Baloch Liberation Army we have not put ths dirty I.S.I. label on him. At this point he does not represent any credible organization inside or outside Balochistan, other than the shadowy, internet-based GOB in exile. I will request the powers-that-be to please control this Popeye the Sailor, who thinks after eating spinach he can knock out the world.

Dr. Jumma Marri has yet to explain how his once-legendary father Mir Hazar Khan Ramkhani has become the Pakistan military pointman in virgin Baloch territories? It is still not too late for him to return into the mainstream resistance.

The Baloch resistance has very wisely sensed they will be waylaid by quite a few shadowy thugs if they go to Bangkok. I fully endorse their decision.

Once again, please end this Bangkok debate. The resistance has spoken.

Hearing the news of the pro-independence leaders and intellectuals boycott the conference which is to be held in Bangkok from February 22nd-24th on the subject of “Baluchistan yesterday, today and tomorrow; meeting the challenges” left us in the state of pleasant amazement as well as amusement.

The reason of amazement was the question of how could a person like Munir Mengal whose only announcement of opening TV channel (Baluch Voice) let the people overwhelmingly support him, commit such a mistake by inviting such personalities who are not only doubtful but are involved directly working against the Baluch national freedom struggle.

The reason of amusement was to come to know the Baluch leaders and intellectuals today are much matured than ever having the ability of analyzing every aspect of this struggle. Or else, if such conference were to be taken place a few years back, it would have not been inspected on such scale resulting in the increase of numbers of participants and those who keep evil ambitions would have continued their work. In result, the national struggle would have faced interior and exterior troubles due to it.

After the caution given by the pro-independence leaders and intellectuals for not participating in the conference and appealing others (pro-independence) to not to mark their characters as suspicious by participating, we tried to inspect the situation to get the real issue.

After consulting a few friends on this subject, we came to know leaders and intellectuals took this decision after 2 basic points;

Hiding the names of the participants coming from Pakistan even to those who play an important role.

A conference in which Baluchistan’s peak leaders like Mehran Marri’s participation is expected, the identification of other participants is necessary because in such stage when Baluch national struggle is accelerating day by day, one cannot overrule the fact of Pakistan and Iran harming such leaders by any mean of conspiracy. If Munir Mengal had invited trustworthy leaders, intellectuals, journalists and political activists from Baluchistan or even Pakistan, why would he hide their names from those who are playing a direct and important role in the national struggle?

As far as we came to know, despite the requests of some foreign based Baluch leaders and intellectuals who were their self invited to participate in the conference, the names of participants from Pakistan were not told to them.

There was no harm in revealing the names of the participants to those who are leading this national struggle and are worried about their own security so that accordingly they could gather information about the participants for their satisfaction.

Inviting doubtful personalities giving birth to many confusions:

The issue of Dr. Jumma Marri being invited is a matter of bunch of questions. First of all, Dr. Jumma Marri himself hold no importance nor he is related to the Baluch national freedom struggle by any means. He owns a website (www.balochunity.org) which actually spreads confusion among visitors about the Baluch national freedom struggle and is a mean of making the struggle unpopular. The invitees of this conference include a few foreign based activists who directly rely on the payroll of Pakistan, other than that, invitees include a bunch of people who keep daydreaming and are victims of the misconception of representing the Baluch internationally. Recently a self made poll was organized in one of their sites (keep in mind Dr. Jumma Marri and Dr. Wahid Baluch both have their own different websites) in which national heroes like Martyr Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Nawab Khair Baksh Marri along with other pro-independence leaders were insulted which is an unforgivable national crime.

According to sources, in interviews published in some Indian and Russian newspapers Dr. Jumma Marri has shown himself to be a Baluch leader and son of the legendary Baluch leader. As far as the question of being a Baluch leader is concerned, this topic is invalid for discussion because Dr. Jumma Marri is mostly known of being a spy of his father and his so-called legendary father is today known as the legendary traitor among Baluchs.

In most of his interviews, Dr. Jumma Marri has introduced himself by saying he is the son of legendary commander Mir Hazar Khan Marri who in the decades of 70s and 80s fought against Pakistan but Dr. Jumma never add the fact of once his legendary father, has now surrendered himself to the Pakistani army and is well prepared organizing the tribal force against the freedom fighters in the interest of the Pakistani army. For the remembrance and the kind information of the readers, I am pasting the exact words of Mir Hazar Khan Marri quoting in front of the world media during the act of surrender to Pakistani army;

“My name is Mir Hazar Khan Marri, I have before fought against Bhutto and Ayub Khan, I was a colleague of Nawab Khair Baksh Marri, He was my leader then I separated from Nawab Marri, Now these (who surrendered) have surrendered because of trusting on me. Now these people will not fight against Pakistan. The government has promised to bring development which is still not present, these people have been promised of jobs opportunities, hospitals, roads etc. Now we are with the government of Pakistan.”

Dr. Jumma Marri honors his father as a legend because of his freedom struggle for Baluchistan back in 70s and 80s, but today as he organizes tribal force against the freedom fighters, according to any law in the world he may have been a legendary commander in the past but in the present he is a traitor in the view of the Baluchs.

The only complain to Dr. Jumma Marri is that if his father is committed to such a crime, he could atleast issue a statement expressing that once his father was a famous commander of Baluch nation but at present he is cooperating with the Pakistani army which Dr. Jumma Marri himself condemns. Dr. Jumma Marri never confessed this truth but always tried to make fool the world by showing achievements of his fathers struggle in 70s and 80s. How can a person be trustworthy who organize a rubbish poll against Baluch national leaders like Martyr Nawab Akbar Bugti and Nawab Khair Baksh Marri in his website and never confess his fathers surrender to the enemy or says what his father is currently doing.

Dr. Wahid too is a dummy character in Baluch national struggle who in the US claims to talk about Baloch rights but he himself published news and statements in his website in order to attempt character assassination Of Martyr Ghulam Mohammad. This trend continued till Chairman Ghulam Mohammad was martyred along his colleagues.

Following are the shameful words of Dr. Wahid which he quoted on April 7th 2009 and are the proof of his dishonesty;

“May someone ask what these so-called ‘freedom fighters’  were doing in Kachkol’s office? Drinking tea..? Those who are real freedom fighters do not drink tea openly at the corner. Atleast, we are not going to buy this story and these I.S.I. dramas. They are being arrested and released in order to boost their popularity and distract the people from the real situation”

How can a person be invited to the conference who had without any confirmation or proof accused a shining star in this freedom struggle Martyr Ghulam Mohammad and tried to character assassin him. Call it unfortunate of Munir Mengal or his unawareness that he his relations with such doubtful personalities and attending a program in India with very Dr. Wahid, we are unaware that what all confusions they had raised there about Baluch national freedom movement. But we have heard at some point through our friends that Munir Mengal in India tried to ensure  that he is a representative of a Guerilla Commandar  and who that commander be, we have no idea. The  commander’s representative being Munir Mengal and Dr. Jumma Marri and Dr. Wahid like self claimed leaders being colleagues of Munir Mengal, we humbly advice the particular commander to beware because there is a famous phrase “You tell me whose your friend, I shall tell you who you are!”

In the end, we would conclude that any committee or organization interested in holding any kind of conference on the issue of Baluch national freedom movement, should avoid inviting such doubtful personalities in their conferences whom the pro-independence believe to be the enemies of the freedom struggle.

Baloch resistance to stay away from Bangkok conference

Prostitution of their national politics? Perhaps yes, the Baloch resistance says in Bangkok.

I am forced to pen this article because of a lie. I was shocked when a friend sent me an email early Saturday morning asking me about a Press statement that appeared in the pro-independence Daily Tawar newspaper. The statement pertained to a shadowy conference in Bangkok that is scheduled to start in the Thai capital on February 22 and announced the pro-resistance workers have decided to stay away from it.

“Balochistan yesterday, today and tomorrow: Meeting the Challenges” has been ostensibly called by Paris-based Baloch banker in exile, Munir Mengal.

The sender of the email was my dear friend in London, Faiz Baluch. Faiz Baluch shot into international prominence after being wrongly charged in terrorism case pertaining to the Baluch liberation struggle alongside Baluch national hero Mir Hyrbyair Marri, more than two years ago, In London.

What Faiz Baluch told me made me lose peace of my mind for some hours.

Munir Mengal had called Faiz Baluch from Bangkok in the wee hours of Saturday and told him that he had called the Online News Network who told him that I [Ahmar Musikhan] had given the press statement. He further told Faiz Baluch that when he asked me I told him that I had given the Press statement after talking with Faiz Baluch.

This was pure nonsense and total lies and I am still in a state of utter disbelief and shock over Munir Mengal’s figment of imagination.

Munir Mengal seems to have a penchant for making up nice stories like General Pervez Musharraf meeting him and giving him a book while he was in alleged military custody during his regime.

“Had it been Sardar Akhtar Mengal, there might have been a possibility [That Musharraf would have met him]. But who knows this bloke? Even I never heard his name,” a prominent Christian leader based in the U.S. said.

Some of Mengal’s stories in which the dots do not connect have made him a suspect in the eyes of Baloch diaspora, who are wondering if he is a conman or was a genuine victim during the Musharraf regime.

Just four days earlier during a chat on the Skype, Munir Mengal had promised to send me the list of those invited and those who said they will attend the Bangkok conference:

The list never arrived, but Munir Mengal cooked up the story about talking to the Online News Network and then to me on the Tawar statement that has become the battle cry of the sarmachars, or Baloch trying to drive out the fourth largest army in the world from their homeland, against the conference in the prostitution capital of the world..

“Even though I have nothing to do with the statement or its release, I did agree with most of its logical arguments after I read the statement,” I emailed Munir Mengal.

The Baloch in North America are in particular incensed over the invitation to a fake doctor who came under investigation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Dr. Wahid Baloch aka Dostaen Baloch of Panjgur.

Dr. Baloch is also involved in projecting a non-existent Government of Balochistan in exile, allegedly based in Jerusalem, which Baloch nationalists call a web hoax.

Mostly traveling with an Indian-style suitcase in his hand, the gentleman is no longer welcome in any significant Baloch gathering in the U.S. or Canada after he attacked three of the most prominent Baloch activists Ghulam Mohammad Baloch, Lala Munir Baloch and Sher Mohammad Baloch on April 7 last year as their bodies lay on the foothills of Pidarak, outside of Turbat.

Dr. Baloch is widely suspected of misinforming the F.B.I. that pro-independence activists, including this writer, are members of an alleged sleeper cell of the Baloch Liberation Army.

Dostaen Baloch had visited New Delhi in the first week of November and many Baloch are concerned what kind of misinformation he might have fed to the Indians about the Baloch resistance.

But the sentiments inside Balochistan gravitate mainly against the invitation to Moscow-based Dr. Jumma Marri, son of former guerila leader Mir Hazar Khan Ramkhani, who turned against his political mentor Nawab Khair Baksh Marri while they were in exile in Afghanistan.

Ramkhani, who derives his last name from a clan of the sub-tribe of Bijaranis, was a key fighter against Pakistan military during the days of slain premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1973-77, but has now made peace with Pakistani occupation and has allegedly offered services of more than 1,000 Ramkhani tribesmen to the Military Intelligence as members of a levies force.

Dr. Jumma Marri sometime back confirmed to this scribe that during the second Benazir Bhutto government his father was offered $10 million, but he in stead asked for jobs to 1,300 Bijarani tribesmen in the levies.

Dr. Jumma Marri now runs a Moscow-based web site, http://www.balochunity.org.

To elicit his viewpoint, this scribe sent a controversial video of Ramkhani’s act of surrender to Dr. Marri and asked his opinion on it [the video in Urdu is included herewith]. His response is awaited.

Many Baloch nationalists desire Dr. Marri should rejoin the mainstream Balochistan resistance forces in stead of sailing in two boats and posting unkind comments against Nawab Marri in the yahoogroups under different aliases.

Even independent observers say the conference has little value other than change of clime for Westerners.

“It’s a only an entertainment conference for those who like to visit and enjoy for a few days in Bangkok,” a prominent Oman-based activist Sheh Mureed said in a yahoo discussion group.

“None of the true nationalist forces are attending this conference. Those who blamed our shaheeds [martyrs] and our national heroes are  involved in this conference,” he said.

Most of the reservations of the Baloch resistance about the Bangkok gathering have been aired and published in the pro-independence Gwank Radio [www.gwank.org], which bluntly asked Munir Mengal about the funding. An article by a young columnist Mureed Jan sums up the reservations of the Baloch nationalist forces about the upcoming conference in an article headlined.
